A very busy concert calendar this week has us in full promo mode as we look at the highlights, including the best little festival in the country, Trout Forest Music Festival, and the return of our pal Scott Cook to the Sunset Saloon, along with much more! Hope to see you out there for some great live music!
After some German requests and some new music, a new song sent us deep down the rabbit hole for some songs about a topic near and dear to me, the radio! With so many to choose from, we just had to add on an extra hour!
This year's entry in the annual Desmond Howl Canada Day Spectacular takes us on a coast-to-coast-to-coast tour of this great nation, from St. John's, NFL, to Iqaluit, Nunavut, to Victoria, BC, and home again! We'll travel this great nation hearing songs about some of our favourite stops along the way. I know there's a lot of messed up stuff politically and socially that's gone on and continues to, but there's no denying that we have the best music in the world, so while we figure the rest of that mess out, let's enjoy some great music and come together!
A big Birthday Bash, an exciting new local band, a returning longtime favourite band, some new stuff, a look ahead to Static Roots 2022, and we spin some songs about a woman's right to choose, which we're fully in favour of.
How about that heat, huh? We got hit with a heck of a heatwave this weekend, and it was hard to think of anything else, so we've got a pile of "hot" songs today, as well as a bunch for those who were supposed to run the Manitoba Marathon today before the heat spoiled the party!
The good news is that we have some exciting upcoming shows to preview and a whole pile of great new releases and a few inspired by Dagwood Radio on UMFM. The bad news is that we have yet another tribute to a brilliant musician that we lost this week, as we say a fond farewell to the great Kelly Joe Phelps.
Yet another tribute to a dearly departed music legend today, as we remember the great Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins. We've also got great new music and previews of some exciting upcoming festivals near and far.
Live in studio today as we celebrate the posthumous birthday of our namesake Paul MacLeod and pay tribute to a true giant in the Canadian folk/roots/blues scene, Michael "A Man Named" Wrycraft, who designed incredible album packages for some of our favourite and most significant artists.
Michael hosted a couple of amazing radio shows, which you can find and enjoy here: https://www.mixcloud.com/amancalledwrycraft/
