New music, streaming show news, and a whole bunch of great music suggestions from our pal Mike Plume, who returns to the show this week and heads to Winnipeg on Tuesday for a long-awaited return to The Park Theatre! Get your tickets HERE and join us!
It's Thanksgiving weekend and we've got plenty to be thankful for on this episode, including new music, a couple of rounds of Too Close for Comfort, some birthday celebrations, and we hear from Mike Plume, who returns to Winnipeg for the first time in two years on October 19! Check out this week's episode of Fly with your Shadow for more of my chat with Mike, and get your tickets to join us at The Park Theatre on October 19!
Once again this week we've got a great batch of new music and we revisit some classic debut albums. Last weekend, we got the sad news that a longstanding supporter of UMFM and this show had passed away. Boyd Barber not only gave me one of my favourite songwriters in his son Del Barber, but also some great songs and stories and support. We've got a whole hour of memories today as we tip our hats to him and his loving family and friends. (ethicaldeathcare.com/barber-boyd)
More magnificent new music this week, alongside some great some music from this week's Fly with your Shadow guest, Meaghan Smith, we dive into her first producer, Les Cooper's amazing list of accomplishments, and pull out some alphabetical classics!
New music, requests & dedications, new discoveries, commemorating 20 years since 9/11 changed everything, and we discover (late) one of the greatest songwriters around and play some of the most punk rock music you'll ever hear on this show!
Another show packed with great new music this week, as well as highlights of live shows past and future, a full contingent of German requests for the first time in a long time, and more of my recent chat with JP Hoe, left over from this week's episode of Fly with your Shadow!
Every once in a while you notice that an artist or band that you loved or saw a bunch of times seems to be missing in action. Sometimes a band or artist will just give up the hectic, unpredictable, stressful, dangerous life of a touring musician, and sometimes they'll just drop a little further off the radar, still making music that you might not necessarily even know about. This episode compiles some of those artists and bands and we track a few down and wonder about some others.
This is another in our long line of timeless "standby" episodes that you might hear again some day when I'm not able to come up with a new show. It's full of great music, so I'm sure you won't mind. Heck, you might just want to come back and revisit it on your own some time!
Another bunch of great new music today, some disturbing news about a song that nobody should ever perform again under any circumstances, a look ahead to another stellar lineup of live music in Winnipeg, including a potential Sunset Saloon show, and we say goodbye to the great Nanci Griffith.
It's our 900th episode and time to look back at the past hundred episodes since we last tallied up our most played artists a couple of years ago! It's interesting to compare recent episodes to those cumulative totals, so we did some of that today, but we've also got some great new music to share and we chat about the Great Cycle Challenge Canada, going on now. Thanks to all of the generous sponsors so far. There's still plenty of time to support the cause, so consider making a tax-deductable pledge here if you're able: https://greatcyclechallenge.ca/Riders/JeffRobson
Hey, it's August and our last episode of the 800s! Next week we hit 900 episodes, but before then, some more great new music, more Blue Note Park highlights, and more of my recent chat with Jim White. For more of that entertaining interview, check out episode 20 of Fly with your Shadow.
This month, I'll be taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge, in support of SickKids, an organization trying to find a cure for childhood cancer. That sounds like a mighty amazing mission that I can get behind. If you're able and willing, consider supporting the cause! https://greatcyclechallenge.ca/Riders/JeffRobson
