On the eve of the historic Rheostatics reunion shows going on this weekend in Toronto, a listen back to a show that was produced for their last (aborted) reunion. This show originally aired on December 6, 2012.

Tonight, a show I’ve been thinking about doing since I started at UMFM, a beginners’ guide to Rheostatics. One of my favourite bands of all time, and a band that changed my life forever, Rheostatics albums don’t always jump out at new listeners – sometimes they’re a bit hard to get into. Tonight’s show culls some of the most amazing and accessible songs by one of Canada’s most legendary and respected bands.

Today, a special blast from the past episode as I’m joined by the person who gave me my start on UMFM and my time slot, Lisa-Marie Serafin. She hosted Songwriters’ Circle on UMFM bi-weekly, and I was her borad operator/co-host. When she moved off to Quebec, I eventually inherited the slot and have been firmly entrenched ever since. Before hosting the show, Lisa-Marie was primarily a fine singer/songwriter, and she’s slowly making a return to performing. It was a pleasure to have her back on air and in the booth after 12 years!
