Episode #865
2020 has been an unmitigated disaster in almost every regard except for new music, which has been outstanding. Today we're going to look at some of our favourites in hopes that you might add some music to your online shopping list or your own wish list, especially with the final Bandcamp Friday of the year coming up this week. These aren't necessarily all of the best songs & albums of the year, just some of our standout favourites.

November 1, 2020 - part 1: Billy Joe Shaver tribute
Sunday Nov 01, 2020
Sunday Nov 01, 2020
Episode #861
Another week, another of the all-time greatest songwriters gone. Last week we paid tribute to Jerry Jeff Walker, and this week we say a fond farewell to Billy Joe Shaver, one of the most revered and covered songwriters of them all. Billy Joe lived through just about every danger and tragedy there is, so I was starting to think that he was immortal, but 2020 has a nasty way of proving everyone's mortality. Billy Joe leaves behind a catalogue full of incredible songs that will be sung forever, and the first hour of the show is full of only some of the best. In hour two, we've got some more new music, requests, and other stuff. Keep your loved ones and songwriting icons in your thoughts and prayers folks. Let's keep each other safe so I don't have to do any more tributes this year.

Episode #860
2020 strikes again and takes another music icon/legend. This weekend, Jerry Jeff Walker lost his battle with throat cancer, and we've lost one of the greats of songwriting and performing. Today on the show, a heartfelt tribute featuring words and music from Todd Snider, Jerry Jeff's biggest fan and close friend, and a whole lot of music from the man himself. After that, we've got a pile of new and timely music to round things out.

August 30, 2020 - part 1 - Justin Townes Earle Tribute
Sunday Aug 30, 2020
Sunday Aug 30, 2020
Episode #852
Another great one gone as we pay a fond farewell to the great Justin Townes Earle, who left us far too soon. We've got plenty of examples of him covering other artists, other artists covering him, and a few fun surprises to remember him by. On a happier note, on Friday, September 4, our buddy Sean Burns releases a collection of some of his favourite truckin' songs called "We Gotta Lotta Truckin' to Do," so we hop in the cab and crank a few of our faves to get us ready.
Remember to keep in touch with the people you care about during these days of isolation. You never know what someone's going through unless you reach out. The only way to get through this madness is with a little help. I'm here for you any time.

This is another in our collection of timeless Standby episodes, which you may hear again sometime when I’m not able to put together a new episode for whatever reason. I’m pretty sure you won’t mind.
Have you ever noticed how many songs there are about or by Charlies? No, seriously, it's an epidemic or something! You wouldn't think that Charlie would pop up so often in songs, but we've got two hours of Charlies for you, and there are a whole bunch that I had to leave off! Good Times, Charlie!
So, Charlie, whoever you are, this one's for you!

This is the weekend when we'd normally be off in Germany enjoying our beloved Static Roots Festival, but alas, COVID has ruined everything. Luckily, we've got some new music from festival friends & past performers to enjoy. We've also got another batch of great new releases to tell you about, and there have been so many this year that I thought we'd take some time halfway through the year to play some songs from some of my favourite 2020 releases thus far.

This is another in our collection of timeless Standby episodes, which you may hear again sometime when I'm not able to put together a new episode for whatever reason. I'm pretty sure you won't mind because this is a pretty good one.
Playing great Canadian music is a main mission and joy on this show because I really believe that the best music in the world comes from right here. Every week I try to stack the show with a lot of great homegrown music, but this week, in honour of Canada Day, we're 100% all Canadian and proud of it.
This episode is kind of like a beginner's guide to the best of Canadian music, or a Canadian Greatest Hits, if you will. It aims to pull together some of the most essential Canadian music ever made in an attempt to show the strength and breadth of our music. We look at some of the early giants whose shoulders today's artists stand on, and a few contemporary artists who are making timeless music bound to be looked back on in years to come.
I can't pretend to put together a comprehensive list in just 2 hours, but I think this one covers a lot of the most important bases. Please let me know what would be on your list of essential Canadian music!

We held back a bit on the new music last week for our Minneapolis themed show, so we had a bit of a backlog to clear out today and it filled up pretty much the entire show outside of a couple of timely tunes and some music as heard on TV.

A smaller crop of new releases this week leads things off, but we do have the great privilege of premiering some amazing new music from Winnipeg's own Sean Burns, created in isolation and coming out on the next BandCamp day. Most of today's show is a love letter to a city that I love and visit often, Minneapolis, MN. The city has been at the forefront of racial tensions in the USA this week. Our hope is that things can move forward and get better without further violence. Sending some peace, love, and rock 'n' roll to all!
