Episode #654
A collection of beautiful love songs inspired by Del Barber's recent wedding. I never know what to give as a gift, so I went old school and made a mixed tape. It sounded pretty good to me, so I decided to make a show out of it and share it with others. So here it is!

There's nothing I love more than sharing great Canadian music, and on the day before Canada Day, you'd better believe that we're going to do exactly that. Tonight, it's a 100% roots rockin' hit dance party, with just a few of our absolute favourites, including a look at the upcoming return of our namesake artist, Mike Plume!

Episode #648
On Saturday, June 18, our namesake artist, Paul MacLeod passed away at his home in Ontario. Paul was a wonderfully funny and talented individual who brought a lot of light into a lot of lives. Today's show is an overview of his recording career, from his first CD (called Tell the Band to Go Home) to the latest, including his time with Skydiggers. I'll continue to share Paul's music as long as I'm able. I didn't know him all that well, but I'll miss Paul a great deal.

February 3, 2002 - Paul MacLeod
Tuesday Jun 21, 2016
Tuesday Jun 21, 2016
When I first spoke to Paul MacLeod in 2002, the show was still called The Songwriters' Circle. We had an easy, wide-ranging, interesting conversation.
Note that back at this time, we were still doing analog recordings of shows, so this was recorded on a cassette tape. I recall being nervous about the show, so I forgot to start the tape when the show started. Part of our conversation was clipped off, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a lot.
Sadly, Paul died on June 18, 2016. I'm very sad that I'll never get to have one of these conversations again. He will be greatly missed.

Tuesday Jun 21, 2016
This is a special look back at the last time we spoke to the man who gave the show its name, Paul MacLeod. Paul tragically passed away on Saturday, June 18 at the age of 46. Paul had many struggles in life, but he brought so much light and joy to so many through his music and his charismatic personality.
Paul's albums are all wonderful and well worth tracking down, but if you can find a copy of Tell the Band to Go Home, your life will be richer for having that album in it.
Thanks for the inspiration and the laughs that we shared, Paul. I'll miss you a lot.
Jeff

Sunday Jun 12, 2016
We're pre-recorded this week because I'm off living a huge dream that I've had for many years by flying to Germany to meet our good friends Dietmar & Marion. They are kind, generous, wonderful people who have been HUGE supporters of UMFM and this program for a long time. In January, 2010, Dietmar found himself sick in the hospital, and to try and cheer him up, I invited a bunch of his friends to call in to the show and tell him how much his support means. Well, he's turning 50 this weekend, so he clearly needs some cheering up again! Even if you don't know Big D, you'll enjoy the wonderful music and uplifting stories about someone who does a lot of good in this world.

Episode #645
We don’t pay much attention to sports around here, but when a significant cultural icon like Muhammad Ali dies, that’s worth taking notice of. Due to his impact on a wide swath of society, there are a lot of songs about Ali or that drop his name. And then there are the other songs about boxing. We’ve got a good helping of both today. We’ve also got some great new music and a couple of exciting shows to talk about, both near and far away!

Sunday May 22, 2016
This show is built on a solid base of the greatest songs and greatest songwriters of all time, and this week we lost Guy Clark, who's indisputably one of the best there ever was. The thing about Guy is that for every one of his timeless songs, there is a story about a funny run-in with Guy or about how someone has been influenced by him. Today we covered a mixture of both, with a bunch of his greatest songs, and some special guests calling in to swap stories about their brushes with greatness. We were fortunate enough to hear from Aaron Goss (of The D. Rangers), Mike Plume, and John Wort Hannam!

Tonight we dream of summer days when we could visit Interstellar Rodeo, Trout Forest Music Festival, Calgary Folk Fest, Regina Folk Fest, Canmore Folk Fest, or take a trip on down to Minnesota or Wisconsin!
