The annual university winter lockdown is in full swing, and most sensible show hosts stay home and spend time with loved ones and new toys. Good thing there's nothing sensible about me!
This is another of our holiday marathons, this time largely filled with some of the best music released in 2015, but also featuring music from the genres covered in the shows that were pre-empted, so a little bit of jazz, movie soundtracks, blues, celtic, and even a little bit of hip-hop for good measure. We literally went from Miles Davis to Buck 65 and hit all stops in between!
Jeremy is along to help me play a pile of Christmas music that doesn’t suck! We’ve got a bunch of our all-time favourites as well as some newer selections, all of which should make this Christmas Eve bright, festive, and fun!
Today, another deep dig through the archives as I sift through and pull out some albums and artists that we haven't heard in some time (or perhaps ever.) You'd think that the warm, fuzzy feelings surrounding Christmas time would lead to pulling out some positive, family-friendly fare, but remember, this is not your "normal" radio! Instead, we take a trip straight through the gutter with some of the most offensive and ridiculous songs we've ever aired. These are songs that would even make T-Bar blush! Is Lucy still listening? Probably not, after this show!
My favourite co-host is along for today's show, but since Dad is a bit of a dork and forgot about piano class (oops) we had to leave a little early. In 90 minutes we managed to have a lot of fun and include some Christmas music, some cool covers, some requests, and more!
Tonight a look back at a great CD release gone by and look forward to one to come, as well as an annual Christmas tradition. December 10 marks the anniversary of the death of the great Rick Danko, so a tribute to the man and The Band is in order.
It’s the sad anniversary of the terrible Montreal Massacre in 1989. As much as we like to believe that mass shootings are exclusive to our southern neighbours, Canada has seen its share, including this horrific murder directed at women. Today some songs to remember those women by, as well as a bunch of sung or written by strong and inspiring women. We’ve also got a bit of a tribute to Sinead O’Connor, who has been struggling this week. We’ve also got a few great shows to look forward to, and we finally welcome the Christmas season in song!
