2020 has been an unmitigated disaster in almost every regard except for new music, which has been outstanding. Today we're going to look at some of our favourites in hopes that you might add some music to your online shopping list or your own wish list, especially with the final Bandcamp Friday of the year coming up this week. These aren't necessarily all of the best songs & albums of the year, just some of our standout favourites.
The new music rollout is slowing down, so not as much of the fresh stuff this week, but we've got a bunch left over from Bandcamp day and previous weeks to keep us busy. We've also got some great requests and we celebrate the birthday of one of our most played and beloved artists this week, and mark the first anniversary of the death of another.
Another week, another of the all-time greatest songwriters gone. Last week we paid tribute to Jerry Jeff Walker, and this week we say a fond farewell to Billy Joe Shaver, one of the most revered and covered songwriters of them all. Billy Joe lived through just about every danger and tragedy there is, so I was starting to think that he was immortal, but 2020 has a nasty way of proving everyone's mortality. Billy Joe leaves behind a catalogue full of incredible songs that will be sung forever, and the first hour of the show is full of only some of the best. In hour two, we've got some more new music, requests, and other stuff. Keep your loved ones and songwriting icons in your thoughts and prayers folks. Let's keep each other safe so I don't have to do any more tributes this year.
