Celebrating great live music, including the battle between Ron Hynes and Old Man Luedecke/Jordie Lane, and the return of Peter Cash & Skydiggers! Other good stuff, too. Just listen.

We’ve got a bunch of new & notable music to start today’s show, before shifting gears and going back into the past and digging through the big ol’ pile o’ vinyl records I lugged into the station for a vinyl revival show.

A slightly abbreviated episode tonight so we can dash off to see Mary Gauthier w/Scott Nolan & Joanna Miller! We celebrate the all-too-short career of a band we love, Joy Kills Sorrow, as they prepare to move on to other projects. We've also got some leftover Valentines' Day music courtesy of the Sweetheart compilation series.

Today a chat with one of the greats, and one we’re excited to be welcoming back to town this week, Mary Gauthier. She’s headed in to reunite with her frequent backing band, Scott Nolan & Joanna Miller, as well as working on a book and awaiting the release of a new album. Lots to talk about.
And following up on last week’s chat with Jaxon Haldane about The Willie P Bennett Legacy Project, we present our annual tribute to the late, great Willie P Bennett, who left this world on Feb. 15, 2008. I didn’t even know the guy, but I miss him terribly. There’s never a bad time to listen to a lot of his brilliant songs, but the anniversary of his death reminds me that I’ll do my best to never let the music be forgotten, and thankfully, folks like Jaxon are taking the cause to a whole new level.

February 1 marked 25 years since the tragic death of one of the great, unsung songwriting heroes of all time, Blaze Foley. His reputation has grown over the course of those years, thanks to friends and fans who have sung his songs and spread the word, but there’s still more to be done. We’re doing our part today with a retrospective of some great Blaze covers and of course some from the man himself. Plus, we’re joined by a very special guest, Blaze’s good friend and musical partner for many years, the great Gurf Morlix!
